One of the top priorities for Matt Kaulig and the team at Kaulig Giving is the wellbeing of children and families in Northeast Ohio.
It was an easy decision to partner with Cleveland Indians Charities. The annual Giveathon is an important event for the community because of how it helps local children.
This year’s goal is to raise $200,000 to strike out the digital divide.
Many area students are starting off this school year learning remotely. Sadly, countless children and families in our community don’t have the right technology or even the internet.
Matt and Kaulig Giving are committed to providing children the best access to education and raising funds through the Giveathon to address the digital divide.
What is the Digital Divide?
The “digital divide” is the gap between the children who have access to necessary technology for education and those who don’t.
For example:
- Cleveland is the fourth-worst “connected” city in America. More than 76,000 Cleveland households (44%) do not have cable, DSL, or fiber internet subscriptions.
- The pandemic, lockdown, and need for remote learning amplified this “digital divide” in Cleveland
- Even when we move beyond COVID, students and families need WIFI access to learn and have the same resources as other students in more connected areas
Funds raised from this year’s Giveathon will benefit the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Breakthrough Schools, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio. They will use the funds as needed to best address digital divide gap.
